The town of Slough was divided between parts of the parishes of Stoke Poges and Upton-cum-Chalvey, both in Buckinghamshire, lying two miles from Windsor. It is on the main road from London to Bath and was on the Slough branch of the Grand Junction Canal. The soil is gravel. One third of the land was arable, and slightly less than a third permanent grass. There was a weekly cattle market. See also Farnham Royal, Stoke Poges, Wexham and Upton-cum-Chalvey for details.
